A 12-year-old boy was killed Monday afternoon when the utility vehicle he was driving overturned in Hendry County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Investigators say the boy was driving what the accident report described as a “John Deere side-by-side” vehicle down a private dirt road in Immokalee Monday afternoon at about 4:30 p.m.
Along with the driver, a 9-year-old boy and a 41-year-old man, all from Miami, were passengers in the vehicle.
Troopers say the vehicle went off the left side of the road. The boy overcorrected by steering right and the vehicle overturned.
The 12-year-old died at the scene. The 9-year-old sustained serious injuries and was taken to an area hospital. The adult reportedly had only minor injuries, troopers said.
