A man and two children died after a car crash on Friday in Miami-Dade County’s South Miami Heights neighborhood.

A man and a child who were in a black Lexus sedan died after the crash on the eastbound lanes of Quail Roost Drive at Southwest 117 Avenue, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel used a helicopter to fly a child who was injured in a gray GMC sports utility vehicle to the HCA Florida Kendall Hospital.

The child later died at the hospital, according to FHP. The GMC had rear-end damage, and the black Lexus faced the opposite direction. Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office deputies were at Quail Roost Drive, also known as State Road 994, to assist FHP, the lead investigating agency, according to Detective Samantha Choon, a spokeswoman for the M-DCSO. The Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner’s Office responded. Quail Roost Drive was temporarily closed, and FHP troopers reopened it by 11 p.m.
