The motorcyclist killed in a crash that shut down lanes on Interstate 75 in Weston on Tuesday night was identified as a retired Miami Beach police officer.
The crash happened after 7 p.m. on I-75 south at exit 15 on Royal Palm/Arvida Parkway.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, a Volkswagen Jetta and an Indian Challenger motorcycle were travelling southbound adjacent to each other. At some point, the Jetta’s back left collided with the motorcycle’s front right.
After the crash, the motorcycle overturned and the driver was “separated” from the bike, authorities said. He was then hit by another car.
The motorcyclist died at the scene, FHP said.
The other two vehicles stopped after the crash. The drivers were not injured and it is not clear if anyone will face charges.
Four lanes of traffic were shut down for the investigation, and the scene cleared after midnight, according to the Florida Department of Transportation’s traffic website.
Video from the scene showed a yellow tarp on the leftmost lanes and a motorcycle that landed on its side.
The investigation continues.
