A fatal crash involving three tractor-trailers on the Florida Turnpike killed one person and left another seriously injured. The wreck, which occurred shortly after 3 a.m. yesterday in Osceola County near mile marker 248 in Kissimmee, shut down all southbound lanes for hours.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol (chatgpt://generic-entity?number=0) (FHP), the collision began when the third truck — unable to slow down in time — rear-ended a tractor-trailer that had stopped for traffic. That impact triggered a chain-reaction crash, pushing the second truck into the one ahead.
The lead tractor-trailer caught fire, and its driver died at the scene. The driver of the middle truck was seriously injured and taken to Osceola Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Southbound traffic was diverted off the Turnpike at mile marker 249 until the roadway could be cleared. By 2:20 p.m., FHP reopened the inside southbound lane, though the outer lane remained closed for repairs.
