A pedestrian died early Monday after being hit by a vehicle on Florida’s Turnpike in Homestead, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the crash occurred around 3 a.m. near Mile Marker 1. Investigators believe the pedestrian had been walking on the shoulder before stepping into the northbound lanes, where an oncoming vehicle struck them in the left lane.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, and their identity has not yet been released. All northbound lanes were temporarily shut down while FHP investigated.
Authorities have not said whether the driver may face any charges.
