A police pursuit in Northwest Miami-Dade ended violently Friday afternoon when a U-Haul truck being followed by deputies crashed into the front yard of a home, leaving one man injured and two others in custody.
Investigators say Miami-Dade deputies began chasing the truck after recognizing it as a vehicle linked to a series of burglaries in Fort Lauderdale. When they tried to pull the driver over, he sped away.
The chase came to an abrupt end near NW 25th Avenue and 104th Street around 1 p.m., when the truck plowed through a home’s fence. The homeowner, who happened to be outside at the time, was struck by debris and later taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
Authorities said two men inside the U-Haul jumped out and tried to run but were quickly caught. Video from the scene showed deputies placing one of the suspects into the back of a patrol car.
Neighbors said the impact was so loud it sounded like an explosion. One resident described hearing “a huge blast” before seeing patrol cars swarm the area.
Detectives with the Fort Lauderdale Police Department are now taking over the case.
