A Miami-Dade County worker fell roughly 20 to 25 feet into a hole at a lift station Tuesday afternoon in North Miami Beach.
The accident happened at 1600 NE 167th St. Authorities said that, unlike a typical street manhole, the lift station is an access point in the floor covered with a metal grate. Workers can lift the grate and descend a ladder about 20 feet to reach underground equipment.George May, a battalion chief with Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, said rescuers got the worker out in about 20 minutes.“
We’re really proud of our technical rescue teams. They had to be called out,” May said. “The patient was trauma-alerted and transported to (HCA Florida) Aventura Hospital in stable condition.”
No other details about the worker’s age or identity were immediately released.
