Two people were rescued Tuesday after their small plane crashed in a remote area of the Everglades, about 20 miles west of Miami Executive Airport, authorities said.
According to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR), crews responded after receiving reports of a downed aircraft with two people onboard. Air rescue units located the plane overturned in a grassy marsh. Both occupants had exited the aircraft and were stranded at the site.
Because of the rough terrain, rescue teams carried out a helicopter hoist operation to lift the pair to safety. Video released by MDFR shows the two individuals standing on the plane’s wing as a helicopter hovers above them, lowering rescuers to assist.
No injuries were reported. Both individuals were airlifted back to Miami Executive Airport.
