A deputy with the Broward Sheriff’s Office was hurt and a driver was arrested in a crash in Pompano Beach on Monday morning, authorities said.
BSO officials said the crash involving a deputy and one other car had shut down traffic in all directions at West Atlantic Boulevard and Northwest 27th Avenue at around 5:41 a.m.
The deputy was taken to the hospital and treated for injuries that are not expected to be life-threatening, authorities said.
The driver of the other vehicle left the scene, but “was eventually located and arrested for leaving the scene of an accident involving injuries,” BSO said. That driver’s name was not immediately provided.
Video of the scene showed the patrol vehicle stopped diagonally in the roadway. Its front bumper is hanging off, and underneath the vehicle, there’s a substance resembling sawdust typically used to absorb oil spills.
Nearby, a red pickup truck with airbags deployed is stopped partly on the sidewalk and surrounded by smashed glass and debris.
The sheriff’s office asked the public to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.
