Steps to Take After an Accident in Florida
The state of Florida has over 15 million licensed drivers traveling on roads and highways every day. This inevitably leads to crowded roads, daily traffic, angry drivers, and car accidents. After a serious car crash, most people have a lot of questions that need answers. In this short guide, we will list some of the most important steps you can take after a car accident in Florida.
Call 911 Right Away!
After a car crash, most drivers and passengers are left in a state of shock. This may distract you from the task at hand. If someone is badly injured, they are going to need help. The best thing to do immediately after an accident is to call for help. Dial 911 right away! When speaking with the 911 operator, make sure to be very specific so they can locate you quickly and get help to you as fast as possible!
Obtain an Accident Report
It doesn’t matter if you are involved in a minor fender bender or a serious crash with extensive property damage, make sure you obtain a police report with all of the important information you need. This is important because if you want to file a claim or a lawsuit in the future, this is going to help make everything a lot easier. It also helps you to remember the details of your accident.
Gather Evidence
After you call 911, make sure to write down any important details about your crash. For instance, jot down any details about road conditions that may have caused the accident, traffic lights, nearby businesses or cameras, eyewitnesses, etc. Additionally, if you’re able to take videos or photos of the accident with your smartphone, you should definitely do that. It is recommended that you also capture the traffic signs and street signs as part of evidence.
Call Your Insurance Company
After an accident, it is important to contact your auto insurance company. The sooner you call them, the quicker you will be able to get compensated for your injuries and damage to your vehicle.
