A multi-vehicle wreck in Allapattah sent five people to the hospital Wednesday afternoon, according to authorities.
At about 12:45 p.m., four cars and at least one cyclist were involved in an accident near the intersection of Northwest 17th Avenue and Northwest 20th Street, according to Miami Fire Rescue spokesperson Pete Sanchez.
When fire rescue units arrived on scene, Sanchez said they upgraded the incident to a “mass casualty incident.”
One male victim was trapped in his vehicle and the Miami Technical Rescue Team removed him using hydraulic tools,” Sanchez wrote in an email to the Herald.
Five people were taken to the hospital.
One adult male was in critical condition with a head injury and sent to Jackson Memorial Hospital Ryder Trauma Center, according to Sanchez. The remaining patients were in stable condition, he added.
Miami Police is investigating the cause of the crash.
