A teenage girl is in critical condition after being struck by a truck Thursday afternoon while crossing a busy intersection in southwest Miami-Dade, according to investigators.
Authorities said the crash happened around 3:20 p.m. at Southwest 127th Avenue and 204th Street, near Cutler Bay. The driver of the truck remained at the scene and spoke with police. The girl was taken to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
A nearby home’s surveillance camera captured the moment of impact, showing the teen walking along the roadway as a school bus approached a stop sign. Seconds later, the truck hit her, knocking her several feet across the pavement.
Retired Miramar police officer Will Brown, who witnessed the crash, said he ran to help the girl immediately. “It almost looked like a mannequin lying in the street,” he said, describing how she appeared motionless but still breathing when he reached her.
Brown said the driver, a woman, appeared shaken and called 911 right away. “She was saying she didn’t mean to hit her,” he recalled, adding that the truck’s front end was badly damaged. According to Brown, the driver told him she never saw the teen in the roadway before the collision.
