A 19-year-old man was killed and six others were injured in a crash on State Road 84 in Davie early Saturday morning, troopers say.
A little before 3 a.m., an Audi S5 and a Honda Accord were driving “at an excessive speed” toward University Drive semi-parallel to one another in the left and center westbound lanes of the highway, Florida Highway Patrol said in a news release.
A 21-year-old Plantation man was driving the Audi, which had a 19-year-old Davie man inside as well as a 19-year-old man from Weston and a 23-year-old man from Hallandale Beach. Meanwhile, A 24-year-old Pompano Beach woman was driving the Honda, with a 24-year-old Tamarac man and a 25-year-old Fort Lauderdale man inside.
The right side of the Audi collided with the Honda’s left side, side-swiping it, according to the release. The collision caused the Audi to veer into the left shoulder and crash into the concrete traffic barrier before it “lost control,” going back into the westbound lanes of the highway and spinning all the way across until it crashed into a guardrail on the right side, entered the grassy shoulder and crashed into a metal fence.
The Honda, meanwhile, came to a controlled stop on the right shoulder, the release said.
During the crash, the 19-year-old Davie man was ejected from the Audi. Davie Fire Rescue pronounced him dead at the scene. All of the other people involved had injuries, according to the release, which did not say if anyone was hospitalized.
The release did not provide further details on what led up to the crash. No charges have been announced.
