The Collier County Police Department closed both lanes of Interstate 75 highway when a semi-truck collided with a Honda Sedan. The car suffered heavy damage and appeared to be pinned underneath the truck, according to a spokesperson for the police department. The driver of the Honda and its two other passengers reportedly sustained varying degrees of injuries in the crash. Emergency responders extricated them from the wreck and then paramedics immediately transported them to a nearby hospital.
The 34-year-old driver of the Honda suffered life-threatening injuries. Police have yet to release the medical condition and further details regarding the two other passengers. Authorities reported that they were all wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident. Meanwhile, the semi-truck driver did not receive any injuries from the crash. A police investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.
