According to a spokesperson for the Lighthouse Point Police Department, four individuals were taken to the hospital after being involved in a horrific rollover crash on Lighthouse Point in Fort Lauderdale. The accident took place near the intersection of NE 36th Street and North Federal Highway just after 1pm on Saturday September 12, 2020. According to lighthouse point officers, there were two vehicles involved in the rollover crash: a Toyota Camry and a convertible. Both cars were severely damaged and had to be towed from the scene of the crash. Emergency first responders transported the victims to Broward Health North in critical condition. Police shut down Federal Highway between Northeast 39th and 44th streets in both directions while they investigated. The roadway has since reopened. An investigation is still ongoing as to the cause of the crash. No further details have been released at this time.
Rollover Car Accidents and Injuries
Rollover accidents can cause very serious injuries. The types of injuries that can be sustained in car wrecks can range from minor abrasions and cuts to spinal cord injuries and brain injuries. Sadly, treatment for injuries can be extremely costly and in many cases insurance companies will deny valid claims leaving injury victims feeling helpless. If you were injured in a traffic accident that was caused by the negligence of another driver, you may be entitled to compensation to cover medical expenses, lost wages, surgeries, and other damages. Generally, a negligent driver is liable to injured persons for all injury directly caused by their negligent driving. To prove negligence, you would have to prove that the person who caused the accident failed to act reasonably, and that their failure to act reasonably caused the accident, resulting in damages (such as an injury, lost wages, and pain and suffering). Injuries resulting from negligence are direct when a person of ordinary prudence would have likely foreseen them as natural and probable results of their negligent conduct. Negligence occurs when a person fails to take on an activity with the requisite degree of care required under the law commonly referred to as the duty of care. A negligence lawsuit will not be successful unless it involves a breach of a legal duty to the injured party. Whether or not any act or omission is negligence depends on the circumstances of the case, judged by legal standards. The universal standard of care is that which would be used by a man of ordinary prudence and judgment under all the circumstances of the case.
