Two bicyclists were struck by a Miami-Dade police cruiser near the entrance to Virginia Key Beach Park last week on Saturday at around 8 am. The officer immediately called 911 and requested fire rescue to respond to the scene. The officer provided first aid to the two bicyclists. One of the men sustained minor injuries while the other had severe injuries. The two cyclists were hit by the police officer when they were cruising down Arthur Lamb Jr. Road. As City of Miami Fire Rescue and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units were on their way to the scene of the accident, one of the bicyclists went into traumatic arrest. Police Officers on scene immediately started CPR on the victim and continued until fire rescue paramedics arrived and continued efforts. The man was transported to a nearby trauma center where he was unfortunately pronounced dead shortly after. The other bicyclist who was transported to the same hospital, but had only minor, non-life threatening injuries plans to sue the Miami-Dade Police Department for damages stemming from the accident.
