Man dead, woman critical after shooting leads to crash near Miami Gardens townhome

A man was killed and a woman is in critical condition after a shooting in Miami Gardens led to a vehicle crashing next to a townhome, police said.

Miami Gardens Police units responded to the scene of the crash near Northwest 13th Court and 214th Street, early Friday morning,

Surveillance footage showcased the moment a white Range Rover careened into the fence of a home in Mallorca Isles, drawing a heavy police presence, early Friday morning.

According to investigators, the shooting took place elsewhere, near Northwest 208th Street and 14th Place.

Police said the male victim was shot in the chest, and he crashed while driving away from the scene of the shooting with the female victim in the passenger seat. The family of the deceased man identified him as 28-year-old Demonte Lumpkin.

Detectives said the Range Rover crashed through a gate and some trees before it came to a halt at the townhome, just after 12:30 a.m.

It was at this point that Miami Gardens Police were called.

Lumpkin was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, just weeks before his 29th birthday.
