A spokesperson for the Miami-Dade Police Department says a man died after his vehicle crashed into the historic Lyric Theater in Miami. The single-vehicle accident occurred earlier this week on Friday when the man lost control of his vehicle and rammed into the theatre located at 819 NW 2nd Avenue which is located in Miami’s Overtown neighborhood. The historic theatre was built in 1913 is considered to be Miami’s oldest entertainment venue. Thankfully, the theatre was closed at the time of the crash, so no one was hurt. Police officials said that the man appeared to have a medical emergency which caused him to lose control of his vehicle. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue arrived on the scene and took the man to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead as he succumbed from his injuries. Police quickly shut down the road between NW 8th Street and NW 9th Street to conduct an investigation of the accident scene but it has since been reopened.
Steps to Take After a Car Crash
Being involved in an automobile accident is horrifying. Legal matters are probably not the first thought that comes to mind post-accident. Even so, the steps you take directly after a crash, can considerably change the outcome of your car accident case. That is why it is very important to take certain steps after a car accident. Below you’ll find 4 important things you can do after a car crash.
Find a Skilled Personal Injury Attorney: Personal injury law is constantly evolving and can be complex for the average person. A personal injury attorney who dedicates their time to these types of cases can be of great assistance. While not all accidents and injuries require you to go out and hire an attorney, it doesn’t hurt to get a free consultation and get important information about your claim or potential lawsuit. An attorney can provide solid advice as to how to deal with our own insurance company and the insurance company for the other driver. At Suarez & Montero, we offer free consultations!
Inform Your Insurance Company About Your Accident: On your automobile insurance policy, there is a deadline for when you are supposed to report your car accident. Be sure to call them as soon as possible in order to avoid any issues and make sure to request a copy of your policy of insurance. But remember, anything you say to the insurance company’s adjuster can be used against you.
Contact Law Enforcement: For starters, in the state of Florida, calling the police is required when an accident involves property damage above a certain amount or involves injury or death. Nonetheless, it’s probably a good idea to call the cops regardless of the type of accident you are involved in. With a proper police report, our attorneys can easily determine who is at fault for the accident or who we to file a lawsuit against for damages.
Don’t sign anything: Most car accident cases end with a settlement in favor of the injured victim with the victim receiving compensation for their damages. Insurance companies usually want to settle cases as quickly as they can because if the case proceeds to trial, they will have a lot of added expenses which may include legal fees, filing costs, trial preparation, expert witnesses, etc. Additionally, they are also leaving their fate in the hands of a jury. Thus, in most cases they prefer to settle cases before these added costs come into play. Sometimes, an insurance company will offer you a settlement very early on in the insurance claims process. We recommend you avoid signing anything at such an early stage without getting some professional advice from a personal injury attorney.
