Jet Ski Accidents in South Florida

Florida is a great place to have fun on the water, riding jet skis is one of the most popular ways Florida residents like to enjoy their time on the water. However, the probability of being involved in a jet ski accident is quite high in comparison to boating accidents according to statistics. There  are numerous factors that may increase the odds of a jet ski accident including age, human error, alcohol, fatigue, inexperience, excessive speeding, and most importantly negligent. Negligence as it pertains to jet ski accidents occurs when a person fails to fulfill their duty to maintain reasonable care while operating a jet ski or boat and almost all jet ski accidents are in some way caused by negligence. Many Florida jet ski accidents usually occur when riders are speeding or under the influence of drugs or alcohol. As it pertains to alcohol, it is often stated that the most influential predictor of being involved in a jet ski accident is alcohol use. Further, statistics and reports show that younger jet ski operators are by far the most common age group involved in jet ski accidents involving alcohol use. There are numerous reasons why being under the influence of drugs or alcohol can increase the odds of getting into a jet ski accident. Another common factor is that young or inexperienced or first-time riders often get into accidents because they are not used to operating jet skis or other types of personal watercraft. Many inexperienced riders believe that older riders are at a greater risk of being involved in a jet ski accident. This may be because they seem to think that older riders may lack the reflexes to react quickly enough to avoid a crash or maybe because older riders are more likely to have poor vision. Older jet-ski operators are the age group with the lowest number of reported accidents consistently each year. In fact, when considered in terms of the number of persons in each age group involved in accidents, accident rates generally decline with increasing age. Overall, there are many ways that jet ski accidents occur, and it is important to find ways to reduce said accidents.
