A Miami-Dade Transit bus driver has resigned amid termination proceedings after police said he shot and killed two passengers in Miami Gardens, officials confirmed Saturday.

An MDT spokesperson identified the driver as Oshane Griffiths.

Police said Griffiths, 30, refused to let a man board the bus Sunday morning near Miami Gardens Drive and Northwest Seventh Avenue with a Citi bike he believed was stolen.

When the passenger reached into a bag, the bus driver shot him and another passenger, authorities said.

A witness told Local 10 News that the second man, an innocent passenger, was likely hit by a stray bullet.

Miami Gardens police said the driver was detained for questioning, but was not facing any charges as of Saturday morning.

They later identified the men killed as Ejaash Carter, 46, and Lonnie Harley, 44.

The Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office is investigating the shooting.

According to MDT, bus drivers are not allowed to be armed while working.
