Miami-Dade Deputy Devin Jaramillo, 27, was shot and killed Friday afternoon while responding to a traffic crash near Kendall, officials confirmed.
Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz said Jaramillo was “brutally attacked and murdered” around 4 p.m. after arriving at the scene. Investigators believe a struggle broke out with at least one person involved in the crash before the deputy was shot.
Sources said the suspected gunman died from a self-inflicted wound, and another individual was detained for questioning.
Good Samaritans called 911 and tried to help before deputies rushed Jaramillo to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, where he later died.
Sheriff Cordero-Stutz described the young deputy—who graduated from the academy in 2024—as a dedicated officer, son, and friend who “gave the ultimate sacrifice, his life.”
