Neighbors rallied to help four people traveling aboard a small plane that crashed in a Florida neighborhood.
Authorities reported that a pilot and three passengers were approaching North Perry Airport when the aircraft crashed into a tree in the Pines Village neighborhood on Sunday, July 13, according to the Associated Press and the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.
A spokesperson for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) told PEOPLE that the Cessna Skymaster crashed around 8:10 p.m. local time.
The plane caught fire after the crash, while the pilot, Carlos Balza Cárdenas, 58, of Weston, and the passengers were trapped inside, according to the Sun-Sentinel, citing an incident report.
Some neighbors reportedly used a sledgehammer to break the windows and a hose to spray water on the plane while other neighbors called for help. Two teenagers, Carol Balza, 16, and Nicole Balza, 13, were sitting in the second row of the plane at the time of the crash.
All four people on board were taken to Hollywood Memorial Regional Hospital, according to the Sun Sentinel, citing the incident report.
The four survivors suffered minor injuries in the crash, according to the Pembroke Pines Police Department.
