A woman was killed and a man was injured Wednesday afternoon after a sedan overturned on the Palmetto Expressway in Hialeah, shutting down southbound lanes for hours, authorities said.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the incident happened in the southbound lanes of State Road 826, in the area of NW 103rd Street.
Investigators said a white Audi sedan first struck a concrete traffic barrier and then crashed into a Ford pickup truck.
The impact caused the Audi to overturn, ejecting both occupants, according to FHP.
Troopers said the Audi’s front passenger, an adult woman, died at the scene. The driver, an adult man, was transported to Kendall Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Southbound lanes of the Palmetto were shut down at NW 122nd Street after the crash. Authorities urged drivers to avoid the area as the investigation continued.
FHP said the roadway was expected to reopen by 9 p.m.
Officials have not released the identities of the victims or said what may have caused the crash. The investigation remains active.
