City of Miami Police have identified the two people who were killed inside a Del Toro Insurance office Monday morning, saying the incident appears to be a murder-suicide involving former spouses.
The victims were Indiana del Socorro Guzman Mendoza, 32, and Reynaldo Sandoval, 61.
It happened inside the business located at 42 NW 27th Avenue around 8 a.m. Monday.
Officers responded to the scene after receiving reports of gunfire.
Upon arrival, they found both Mendoza and Sandoval suffering from gunshot wounds. Miami Fire Rescue pronounced both individuals dead at the scene.
Police said they are seeking any information the public may have that could help clarify the events leading up to the shooting.
Later in the day, a woman identifying herself as Sandoval’s ex-wife visited the scene and said, “He was the father of my kids. They were having problems. She took him to court. She accused him of domestic violence. He talked to me and told me he never put his hands on her.”
Del Toro Insurance, where Mendoza was employed, released a statement expressing shock and sorrow at the tragedy.
“A completely unjustifiable crime of passion took place against one of our employees, who was on duty and serving the community,” the company said. “We extend our deepest condolences to her loved ones in this sad and difficult time.”
The investigation remains ongoing.
