According to a spokesperson for the Broward Sheriff’s Office for traffic homicides, officers are currently looking for help in identifying a driver who was involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash last week in Central Broward. A pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash after a car struck the pedestrian at approximately 5am on September 18, 2020. According to the Broward Police Department, the driver of a Honda Civic was speeding north on South State Road 7 near Davie Boulevard when they crashed into the victim. The impact of the crash caused the pedestrian to go airborne and land near Southwest 12th Place. The driver abandoned their vehicle in front of a random home in the 600th block of Long Island Avenue in Fort Lauderdale. The car had front-end damage and a busted windshield. It was eventually towed away.
Types of Damages in Personal Injury Cases
By filing a personal injury claim, injury victims can recover compensation for medical bills, loss of income or lost wages, vehicle damage, emotional distress, pain and suffering, etc. Personal injury claims are complex. No two cases are alike, and the amount of damages you may recover depends on the extent of your injuries, how they have impacted your life, and other factors. There is no set way to calculate damages. Insurance companies try to undervalue or deny claims any way they can, so it is critical to have a skilled attorney who will fight to help you recover maximum compensation and make things right for you and your family. Injury victims should not have to bear the cost of paying for medical treatment when the injury sustained was caused by another individual or entity. If you have been injured or have lost a loved one in an accident, an experienced personal injury lawyer can help you understand your rights and determine what the best course of action should be for you.
Medical expenses: If you had to undergo surgery, multiple hospital stays, physical therapy, rehabilitation, have been prescribed medications, or are currently undergoing medical treatment for your injuries, hiring a personal injury lawyer can help make sure that you obtain enough compensation for both past and future medical expenses you may incur.
Lost wages: Damages for lost wages include compensation for work that an injury victim could have completed if they had not suffered an injury. If you find that you are permanently unable to continue working due to an injury caused by another individual or entity, you may also be entitled to compensation for loss of future earning capacity.
Property Damage: There is compensation available for any property damage caused by another driver as a result of a car crash. The types of damages that fall under this category may include car repairs or replacement of a vehicle.
Emotional Distress: This is a type of damage that falls under the non-economic damages category and are bit more difficult to calculate. Damages for emotional distress are difficult to obtain but not impossible as they are awarded on a case by case basis. It is a good idea to work with a lawyer who understands how to correctly calculate and prove which noneconomic damages you may be entitled to obtain.
Pain and Suffering: This is also considered a noneconomic damage type. If you sustained a serious or catastrophic personal injury, you may experience chronic physical pain, which can make it impossible to enjoy or even perform everyday activities like taking a walk or exercising.
