A senior at Westminster Christian School in Palmetto Bay was killed Sunday in a boat crash in the Florida Keys, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission police and school officials. A spokesperson for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says Lucas Alvarez, 18, captain of the school’s lacrosse team, was a passenger in a 23-foot Pathfinder open fisherman vessel when it collided with channel markers near Islamorada on Sunday, February 16, 2020. The FWC along with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and fire rescue, responded to the scene of the accident. The accident involved a 23-foot vessel that was travelling Southbound in the waterway and struck a channel marker. Upon impact, three additional passengers were ejected into the water who were not seriously injured.
