A three-vehicle accident claimed the life of one motorist and left others with injuries at around 8 a.m. Wednesday morning. The accident took place just east of Greenbrier Lane on State Road 70. According to the report from Miami-Dade Police, a semi-truck driven by a 39-year-old man was traveling east toward Okeechobee when the Semi crossed the center lane and drifted into the west lane colliding with a silver Toyota sedan being driven by a 25-year-old woman from West Palm Beach. The impact from the crash caused the sedan to crash into an SUV with three passengers. The front of the sedan hit the SUV’s right rear in the second collision. Police officers say the Semi truck ended up facing east on SR 70. The identification of the drivers and passengers have not been officially released. Police is still conducting an investigation as to the cause of the accident.

Traffic Accidents in South Florida

The vast majority of South Florida traffic accident claims are based on negligence, when the responsible party acted in a thoughtless and/or careless manner that caused injury, death or harm to another individual. At Suarez & Montero, our team of top-rated car accident lawyers will work tirelessly to advocate on your behalf to make sure you obtain compensation for you and your loved ones. A car crash can greatly affect your life and the aftermath of an accident can be confusing. Here are some answers to some of the most frequently asked questions after a car accident:

What should I do after a car crash?

The decisions you make after a crash can greatly impact your potential to recover compensation for your injuries. First of all, never leave the scene of an accident as you can face criminal charges for doing so. Instead, the first thing you should do after a crash is call for help, call 911 so that you can get medical assistance out to the accident as well as a police officer who can assess the situation. If the police officer asks you if you were at fault for the accident, do not admit fault. Finally, consider using your smartphone to take pictures of the accident scene and any property damage.

What kind of information do I need to file an insurance claim?

In order to successfully report a car accident claim, it is vital that you gather several pieces of information. The type of information you will need includes driver contact information and any witnesses that may have been at the accident scene, photos of the damage to all vehicles involved in the accident, and the insurance information for the other drivers involved in the accident.

How Should I Handle a Hit and Run Accident?

There’s nothing worse than being involved in a hit and run accident. After being involved in a hit and run accident, clients are usually concerned that they will not be able to recover for their injuries or get their car repaired. First things first, just like any other car accident, it is important to follow these steps: 1) call 911, 2) obtain necessary information, 3) take photos of the accident scene and the damage to your vehicle, and 4) obtain medical treatment. The good news is that if you purchased uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage, your own insurance company should be able to cover the costs of repairing or replacing your vehicle.

What if the other driver is underinsured?

If the at-fault driver does not have enough insurance coverage to pay for all of your medical bills and property damage, you may be able to tap into your own UM coverage as discussed above. UIM/UM coverage is not that expensive, but it can be extremely helpful after a serious car accident.
