According to a spokesperson for the Miami-Dade Police department, a woman was killed late last night when she was struck by a hit and run driver at an intersection located at NW 103rd Street and 13th Avenue. Neighbors say the woman would frequently walk to a nearby convenience store and would frequently cross the intersection where drivers are known to speed. Immediately after the accident, the body of the woman, who neighbors said was in her 70s, remained on the pavement beneath a yellow tarp, while police lights flashed, and detectives investigated the scene of the accident. Witnesses at the scene say the woman was struck by a vehicle and that the driver just kept on going. A man who people identified as the victim’s husband was at the scene and visibly upset. He was being tended to by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue. A Toyota SUV was stopped with hazard lights flashing within the police perimeter, but the involvement of that vehicle or the person driving it is still unclear. No further details have been released at this time.
