A hit and run accident left one woman dead in Southwest Miami-Dade on Saturday just after midnight. Police responded to the intersection of Southwest 304th Street near U.S. 1. The Miami-Dade Police Department is searching for a driver who, they say, struck and killed a woman in Southwest Miami-Dade and fled the scene of the accident. Officers said the hit-and-run occurred just after midnight, Saturday. 

Detectives believe the woman was walking home from work when she was hit. The body of the victim was later discovered. Detectives said there was no debris found on the crime scene, so it’s unclear what kind of car was involved. The Miami Dade Police Department is asking anyone that has information to come forward and provide any information they may have to help them in their investigation. 

In the state of Florida, a hit-and-run may be charged as a misdemeanor or a felony (depending on the circumstances of the accident). Leaving the scene of an accident causing only property damage is considered a second-degree misdemeanor and is punishable by up to 60 days in county jail and/or a fine of $500. If the accident results in a fatality, there is a mandatory minimum of 4 years for a driver convicted of leaving the scene.
