A Fort Lauderdale homeowner is reeling hours after, police said, a driver with multiple gunshot wounds careened into his property and died at the scene. Investigators said the driver had been shot multiple times and was already dead by the time they responded. Officials said the victim was an adult White man, and they need to verify his identity, who shot him and why. Fortunately, the car stopped short of hitting the residence, but it did careen through the man’s yard just minutes after his daughter had stepped outside to get into her own vehicle. Detectives are attempting to determine if they received any reports of shots fired in the area, as they continue to investigate. No further details have been released. How much car insurance do I need?
Car accidents occur every single day in South Florida. For a car accident claim to be successfully made, you must have been in an accident, you must have suffered an injury because of the accident, and someone else’s negligence must have caused the accident. Many people who are injured in a car accident actually get victimized a second time. This is because in South Florida, many drivers do not have enough insurance coverage to fully compensate victims for their injuries. At Suarez & Montero, we see this happen all the time. We regularly represent clients who are injured because of another person’s negligence. After an accident, we find that oftentimes the at-fault driver either has no insurance coverage or does not have enough insurance coverage to completely compensate the victim. Insurance coverage cannot be purchased after an accident happens. Instead, it must be purchased long before an accident ever occurs in order to prevent someone else’s lack of adequate insurance coverage from affecting you. You must do this because despite what insurance companies tell you, they really are not in the business of protecting you against anything. Insurance companies simply are in the business of selling insurance policies. I don’t think that many people give enough thought about the purpose of their car insurance or about how much car insurance they need. Remember, if you accidentally hurt someone in an accident and your liability insurance policy limit isn’t high enough to cover the costs, you will be on the hook for these costs. Essentially, you would have to pay for the difference between the insurance money available from your policy and the actual value of the person’s claim. Because of that, a person who earns a high wage or has a lot of assets, needs significantly more car insurance coverage in order to be protected from personal liability. Although how much liability car insurance you buy is a personal decision, it is a decision that deserves some careful consideration.
