A horrific crash early Sunday morning in Wilton Manors left an SUV unrecognizable on  impact, shredding the SUV to pieces. Only one person, the driver, was in the Ford  Expedition and that person’s condition has not been released. Wilton Manors police  believe the driver was speeding southbound on Dixie Highway when approaching the  Five Points intersection at Wilton Drive and NE 26th Street. It took two tow trucks to haul  away all the debris. The SUV smashed into a pole, which fell and hit the Wells Fargo bank  on the corner. Structural inspectors will have to survey the building to see if there was  any damage that might make it unsafe. No further details have been released. Compensation for Your Injuries

Your life may change in a split second after being in an accident. There are many ways  that an accident can affect you. As you might have guessed, the most important elements  of a personal injury lawsuit based on an auto accident are breach of duty and damages. If you are confident that you can convince a jury that the defendant breached a duty which  caused you damages, you and your attorney must next consider what kinds of damages  you can claim to determine if it will be worth spending the legal fees and costs necessary  to sue. In other words, if your only damage from an accident is a bruise on your arm that  had little pain and got better in a few days, a jury is not likely to give you much money, if  any. On the other hand, the expenses of suing, including filing fees, deposition fees and  other such costs can be hundreds or thousands of dollars. So, an attorney will not want  to sue someone on your behalf if in the end you and the attorney will ultimately lose money  rather than make money. To be worthwhile, it must be reasonable to believe that a jury  would give enough money so that after you pay your attorney fees (usually one third) plus  the costs of brining the action, you have enough left over for you to have made it  worthwhile to sue. Under Florida law, the goal in a personal injury lawsuit is to make the  injured party whole and restore that party to the position he or she was in before the  accident took place. The law recognizes several forms of damages recoverable by victims  of personal injuries. These remedies include loss of income, loss of earning capacity, pain  and suffering damages, loss of consortium, compensation for future medical expenses  that the victim will endure, and damages for any permanent disability or disfigurement  suffered by the victim because of an accident. Remember that the law favors  compensation for the injured party so long as the award is reasonable under the  circumstances and is not deemed excessive. The amount of fair compensation that can  be obtained in a personal injury case depends on many factors including the type of  accident, seriousness of injuries, cost of medical treatment and therapy, to name a few.
