Steps After an Accident
If you are injured in an automobile accident in Florida, you are entitled to compensation for the following:
- medical bills that you incur as a direct result of that automobile accident
- medical care that you are reasonably certain to incur for the rest of your life that is directly related to the injuries you sustained in the accident
- lost wages that you incur as a direct result of the accident as well as lost earning capacity into the future which means that if a doctor finds that you can no longer perform certain tasks that influence the amount of money you can earn, you may be entitled to compensation for that as well.
- pain and suffering for the injuries you sustained in the accident including the aggravation caused by the loss of the capacity for the enjoyment of life and the effect it may have on your relationships with the people that you love.
Here are some tips that may help you after being involved in a car accident:
Take photos: Take pictures of the damage to both vehicles. A lot of times, I’ve had clients come in and tell me that their insurance company claims the damage to their vehicle is minor when in fact the damage is substantial. To avoid these issues, take pictures of all vehicles involved in the accident.
Seek medical treatment: Make sure you get treated by a medical professional after an accident. Do this as soon as possible. If you don’t get transported to the hospital right after the accident by the ambulance, go to the hospital as soon as you can on your own or simply have one drive you. It’s important that you document that you’ve suffered injuries in the accident. Additionally, it is also important to know as soon as you can what the true extent of your injuries is.
Contact Your Insurance Company: As soon as possible, file a claim with your insurance company. It is important that they are on board immediately after the accident. You will remember the most details immediately after the accident and you don’t want to lose crucial evidence that can help your claim. Also, make sure you do not provide any recorded statements to any insurance adjuster before you speak with an attorney.
