Miami-Dade police officers apprehended two people who, officials said, were involved in a hit-and-run in North Miami that sent a man to the hospital, followed by another crash in Northwest Miami-Dade. The crash involved a silver Lamborghini SUV along Northwest 27th Avenue, near 119th Street, in Northwest Miami-Dade last night around 9pm. Officers were sheen pulling the driver and passenger of the luxury vehicle and arresting them.
According to North Miami Police, the violent chain of events began when some sort of altercation broke out at Arena Grill and Lounge, located along the 1500 block of Northwest 119th Street. Police said the altercation spilled out into the parking lot, and eventually, the driver of the Lamborghini got in his vehicle, struck the 33-year-old victim, and took off.
The Lamborghini swerved and drove away, leaving the victim in the middle of the street. The SUV was later involved in the second crash. North Miami Police said they have not made any arrests in connection to the hit-and-run. They are investigating the hit-and-run, while MDPD is investigating the second crash. Detectives have not provided further details about the driver involved, as they continue to investigate. Personal Injury Protection (PIP)
Florida automobile insurance laws require vehicle owners to have a personal injury protection (PIP) coverage of at least $10,000. A key aspect of PIP in Florida is that it provides medical coverage to drivers (and passengers) in an accident regardless of who was responsible for causing the crash. It is important to note that PIP coverage is only available if you seek medical attention within two weeks of the incident for your injuries. Otherwise, you will not be eligible for benefits under the plan. The Florida Statutes list several types of medical providers that count towards the 14-day rule including Medical Doctors, Chiropractors, and even Dentists among others. Florida no-fault PIP insurance covers the following: 80 percent of medical bills, including out-of-pocket drug costs, dental expenses and rehabilitation care, 60 percent of lost earnings, $5,000 worth of death insurance in addition to the medical and disability benefits offered by the policy. Under Florida Law, your PIP medical benefits are capped at $2,500 (out of the $10,000) if it is not determined that you have an Emergency Medical Condition. Florida law describes EMC as an ailment requiring urgent medical attention that may reasonably be expected to pose a significant threat to the safety of the patient.
