When a person is injured in a motorcycle accident, it is typically due to a collision with a car. Accidents involving motorcyclists are extremely common throughout South Florida. Although riders must respect the same rules of the road followed by drivers, riders must exercise caution when there is a cyclist in the area. In many motorcycle accident cases, we see that drivers hit motorcyclists because they fail to maintain a safe distance from the motorcyclist when passing them on the road. When a driver is passing a motorcyclist on the road, the driver must move far enough away so there is no danger of colliding into the motorcyclist. When the potential for contact between the cyclist and a driver exists, the driver of the car is in a much better position to slow down or avoid the cyclist and should do so. This is due to the potential for catastrophic injuries if an accident ensues. Although most motor vehicle collisions occur between motor vehicles, we often see the most serious injuries result from bicycle accidents. Often after such an accident, insurance companies will try to drag things out or pay out the least amount possible, while those injured are left to tend to their health without serious help from those responsible.
