It is important to remember that filing a personal injury claim is a process and knowing your rights throughout the entire claims process can be pivotal to getting your personal injury claim paid. Here are some steps to take after a car accident:
Report the insurance claim: Contacting your insurance company and the police after you have been involved in a car accident is a very important part of the claims process and easy to accomplish. Additionally, when complying with your duties after an accident, you want to do them in a way that will assure you the maximum timely settlement. That is why Knowing how your insurance company looks at a personal injury claim will help you along with the claims process. If you fail to comply with your duties after an accident, your insurance company may not be obligated to pay for your claim. As such, it is important to promptly notify your insurance company after an accident. Depending on the state that you live in and the policy that you have, you will have a certain amount of time to provide notice of your personal injury claim.
Keep careful records. Make sure that you have copies of every document that relates to your claim. It is also a good idea to take notes at any meetings and phone conversations you have with your insurance company or insurance adjuster.
Don’t settle for an unfair settlement. If you cannot reach an agreement with your insurance company over your personal injury claim, don’t settle for an unfair or unjust settlement.
